GO, VAN GOGH!

TUESDAY MAY 29 AT 11 AM

Vincent van Gogh produced more than 2,000 works of art in his last decade.  Van Gogh wrote to his brother Theo that, as he had no children, he viewed his paintings as his progeny.  Let’s get to know some of these “brilliant children”, especially those at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

MINDFULNESS MEDITATION BOOK GROUP

TUESDAY MAY 29, 6 PM TO 7:30 PM

Learn tools that can strengthen mindful awareness, compassion and intentional living.  Monthly meetings will include book discussion , an occasional video, meditation and camaraderie.  No prior meditation practice is necessary.  The group will meet the last Tuesday of each month.  All are welcomed.

MIXED MEDIA ON CANVAS

SATURDAY MAY 12 FROM 10 AM TO 1 PM

Students will use a variety of materials such as paints, pastels, charcoal and more to create a final work.

PAINTINGS OF THE DUTCH GOLDEN AGE

TUESDAY APRIL 10 AT 11 AM

Get to know the part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art devoted to the pictures of Frans Hals, Jan Vermeer, and Rembrandt von Rijn.  Along the way learn about the Dutch Republic in its 17th century heyday, including its tulip mania and the Flying Dutchman!

DRAWING TEXTURE Smooth to Rough

TUESDAYS APRIL 17 THROUGH MAY 22, 10 AM TO 12 NOON

This series of six classes will focus on capturing the range of textures from very smooth to very rough.  Students will learn both basic and refined techniques using graphite pencils to lay a foundation for more complex media: ink, pastel, acrylic, and oil.

BEADED EARRING WORKSHOP

Jewelry maker Joan Lloyd will teach participants how to make beautiful beaded earrings.  No experience is necessary.  Make as many pairs as you like, but for every pair you make for yourself, make a pair to donate to a local women’s shelter.  Registration is required.  Please call the library to register, 845-225-2439.

BLIND DATE WITH A BOOK WINNER!

In February a dozen intrepid library visitors went on a blind date with a book.  Choosing a book wrapped in plain brown paper and a pick-up line, readers brought the book home and got better acquainted.   After reading the book, they completed a “Rate Your Date” bookmark and were entered in a drawing to win one dozen chocolate covered strawberries.  The drawing was won by Andrea Lin!

Unfortunately her date, New York Then and Now, left her unimpressed.

LOTUS FLOWER LANTERN CRAFT WORKSHOP

TUESDAY MARCH 20 AT 10:30

Make a lovely lotus flower lantern with members of the Korean Spirit and Culture Promotion project.
